A Little Bit of Calm is All I Need

Over the last several months I have found myself “wound tighter than an E string on a violin”, as my dad was fond of saying.

I had a chat with the hubby. He’s a wise man. He figures we are being worn down a little over time by small life things and world events. I think he’s right.

Our kids say I watch too much news.  Growing up in my family meant we were expected to be aware of current events.   These days we can be updated minute by minute.  I have almost become addicted and feel guilty if I am not on top of what’s going on. There is, definitely such a thing as too much information… and we have everything thrown at us from everywhere.

It’s also easy to keep so busy, even doing fun stuff that there’s no room to sit and rest.  Since we sold our camper we have not often allowed ourselves to just sit outside in the sun with our feet up very often.  Because hubby has worked shifts for so many years, any time we have days off together we pack in the errands and the fun. I spoke to a few “camp-y” people.  They too say it’s harder to relax at home because there is always some chore or project that needs attention.”

Bottom line, I think it’s time to make some small life corrections. I am going to try to do the following:

1.  No looking at news on my phone on the weekend and only once a day during the week.

2.  No social media on the weekend.

3.  Don’t always have my phone within reaching distance. I found I am constantly checking to see if I missed a call or text. Guess what? I’m just not that popular and that’s OK! Lol!

4. Going for more walks with my hubby, especially somewhere in nature (including picnics)! Outside games are stowed in the car for

spontaneous fun!

5. Enjoy our deck more!

I find myself struggling with the bad habits a bit, but I already feel more calm.

Now if I can just sit back and enjoy our road trip this summer I will have scored a huge victory!  If everyone else in the western provinces wouldn’t mind giving us the whole road I think that would work out just fine! Lol! Seriously,  the novels and puzzle books are ready to go and chamomile and green tea will be my friends.

Here’s to letting go of what I can!

Have a great summer all! Feel free to share your favorite ways to unwind!  I look forward to hearing from you!
